Pentax is about to release a new firmware update for its K-5 DSLR Camera. The update is said to offer the following improvements:

• RAW can improve the number of images captured with a focus on continuous shooting.
• Enhance the stability of the overall behavior.

This new firmware update will become available for download from mid-November via Pentax’s official website.

BenQ has introduced another one of its upcoming point-and-shoot camera namely the S1410. This compact camera sports a 14-megapixel CCD image sensor, a 26mm wide-angle lens, a 5x optical zoom lens and 720p HD video recording capabilities. The BenQ S1410 will become available in China in October, Asia Pacific and Latin America in November, and Europe this December.

A new firmware update 'version 1.1' has just been released for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 superzoom compact camera. The update is "intended to address occasional banding or shadow noise that can occur in specific shooting conditions." You can download it starting today via Panasonic’s official website.

SLR Gear has a comprehensive review of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G lens. For your info, this prime lens was announced in August of 2010. The lens features a constant f/1.4 aperture, and was designed to fit the 35mm film frame or FX imaging sensor. Mounted on a DX-sensor body, the lens produces an effective field of view of approximately 127mm. The lens features an AF-S motor, which enables it to be used on SLR camera bodies, which don’t have an Auto Focus motor. Here is the verdict:

Edge-to-edge sharpness is radically improved in the G version of the 85mm f/1.4, when compared to the D version. However, the $1,700-question: is this an improvement? The 85mm f/1.4D was for many, the go-to portrait lens, and in part, this was because of the corner softness produced by the lens at f/1.4. The new version of the lens removes this factor, and unfortunately, doesn’t produce super-sharp results at f/1.4 for the trouble. Rather, we see 2-3 blur units across the frame (on the D3x) with a slight “sombrero” effect. Lastly, longitudinal chromatic aberration is (still) a factor when the lens is used at large apertures, producing red fringing in front of the focal plane, and green fringing behind it.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G lens is currently available for approximately $1,700. Each purchase comes equipped with a round hood.

The Samsung Captivate is now available in Canada via Rogers retail stores. As a reminder, the Captivate features a 4-inch (800 x 480) Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera with no flash, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, a 16GB of internal memory and TV-out through the 3.5mm jack. The handset runs on the Google Android 2.1 OS with TouchWiz. Rogers sells the Samsung Captive for $179.99 each.

Word has it that Sprint will release a new Android handset from HTC, which is known as the HTC Knight. As we can see in the picture above, the phone has four touchscreen buttons located at the bottom of the device that will serve as primary navigation buttons. Three UK has announced the availability of HTC’s newest Android Smartphone ‘Desire HD‘ on their network. The handset is available for 40 GBP (about $63) a month on The One Plan with 2000 any network minutes, 5000 Three-to-Three minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB data. Meanwhile, on Pay As You Go the handset sells for 449.99 GBP (about $708) and includes a 10 GBP (about $16) Top Up. Sony has proudly announced that the company has shipped over 1 million units of its new Move motion controller for the PlayStation 3 in the United States. For your info, the Move has been sold for approximately 1.5 million units across Europe. This new gaming controller was launched just over a month ago on September 17th, 2010.

Activision has rolled out a new gameplay footage "Gun Game" from their upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops title. As mentioned before, the game will be out on November 9th for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS platforms. Watch the video after the break.

Apple has unveiled the new MacBook Air that measures 0.11-inches at its thinnest point and 0.68-inches at its thickest. Weighing at 2.3 pounds for the 11-inch model and 2.9 pounds for the 13-inch model, the new MacBook Air features solid state storage, up to 7-hours of battery life and a full-sized keyboard for typing comfort. Other highlights include a built-in FaceTime camera with a microphone and stereo speakers, Intel Core 2 Duo processors, an nVidia GeForce 320M graphics, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, a Mini DisplayPort and two USB ports (plus an SD card reader in the 13-inch model). Lumigon has started selling the Lumingon T1 Android smartphone. As a reminder, this handset boasts the Bang & Olufsen ICEpower technology that guarantees superior audio quality in the speaker, receiver and headphones. The phone runs on Android OS with Lumigon’s own P-GUI software, which is said to provide a very stylish user interface. It is powered by a Freescale i.MX515 processor, a built in HSDPA modem and a 3.5-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) touchscreen display. The Lumigon T1 is expected to be available in stores before the end of the year with major volumes being shipping in early 2011. No word on pricing so far.

2K Games has finally announced the release date for Mafia II’s upcoming DLC pack "Joe’s Adventures". This add-on content will hit PSN, Xbox Live and PC on November 23, 2010 for $9.99/800 Microsoft Points.

Blizzard has recently announced at BlizzCon 2010 that Diablo III’s fifth character class is a dual-crossbow wielding Demon Hunter. The Demon Hunter features a major focus on projectiles, including throwing knives, bolas, grenades and bows, some of which can be combined with magic spells. The game’s other four classes are the Barbarian, the Witch Doctor, the Wizard, and the Monk.

Acer today introduced a couple of new laptop computers in European market. Sprint has issued a new firmware update for the Samsung Moment to fix bugs and issues with inability to dial 911. This new update also brings some enhancements to the proximity sensor and screen lock. If you are an owner of Sprint’s Samsung Moment, then your phone should automatically download it and prompt you to install. You will also be able to download it from Sprint’s website starting on November 3rd, 2010. The update will renew your phone’s software to version DJ07.

Virgin Mobile Canada is ready to release the LG Sway. This entry-level handset features HSPA support, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 2-inch display, GPS with A-GPS, an MP3 player, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot (up to 16GB), and a WAP browser. As you’d expect with such a feature set, the phone is cheap. The LG Sway is currently available in Virgin Mobile retail locations. Pantech’s new Android Phone, the IM-A690S, is scheduled to hit stores in South Korea next week via the SKY network. The new Android handset is powered by the Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS and features a 3.5-inch (800×480) WVGA AMOLED screen, a 5MP camera with AutoFocus and LED flash, Wi-Fi, a 4GB of internal memory and a 512MB of RAM. NTT DoCoMo will launch the Samsung Galaxy S (SC-02B) in Japan on October 28th, 2010.
