AT&T is set to introduce another messaging phone from Pantech namely the Pantech Impact. The handset will be available starting this Sunday, 22 November, for $99.99 with a 2-year contract agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Specs-wise, the phone has two displays: a small external one and a larger internal one, a photo camera with video recording, a full QWERTY keyboard, a music player, AT&T HTML mobile browser, GPS, 3G and easy access to IM and email.

Casio has released their latest rugged cell phone for Verizon Wireless. Known as the Casio G’zOne Rock, the clamshell phone meets mil-spec 810F compliance for high shock, vibration, water, dust, and extreme temperatures. The phone also features touch-sensitive music controls, thermometer, compass, pedometer, a 2MP digicam with Flash, Stereo Bluetooth, GPS, and EV-DO REV A support. Nokia has officially announced the availability of its N900 smartphone in the US market. The new Google Earth version 2.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch is now available. I’ve been using Firefox for more than 2 years now. The browser addon community and consistent addition of new addons is what amazes me the most. Not only is this the best browser but it is primitively known for consuming too much of RAM memory as well!

One of the reason why the memory consumption increases in Firefox is the integration of addons and to curb down the memory consumption in Firefox i.e, to tweak firefox performance – You have to install an addon (how ironic?) but this does work! Here is the detail.

The addon is Fasterfox although you can find tons of tweaks, but for me, this addon has considerably reduced memory hogging issues from the Firefox browser.

Fasterfox addon has different optimizing levels that can turbo recharge Firefox performance to a greater extent. The pic below shows the various tweaking features:


Result – After implementing Fasterfox, I must admit, there was a significant improvement in Firefox. My Firefox browser was consuming around 800mb and after the implementation of this addon, the consumption level was brought down to 200mb :) which is really cool!

The MKV container format is widely recognized as being a pioneering development of open source in the realm of multimedia. Makroska’s video and audio stream container format, though constantly being updated and developed by many audiophiles around the world, is not used a lot because of the amount of work required to play one of these files.
