Tele Atlas and Samsung have announced an agreement under which Samsung will use Tele Atlas maps for its GPS-enabled devices. Samsung will be able to bundle Tele Atlas’ product with its smartphone with more than 24 million points of interest (POIs), Voice Maps, and visual enhancements such as 3D Landmarks, 2D City Maps and Digital Elevation Models.

The two companies will continue to collaborate to deliver rich navigation and location solutions, covering a wide range of products and regions.

Pentax today launched the firmware version 1.02 for the K-7 DSLR. The new update provides several improvements including:

Panasonic has released a new firmware update version 2.1 for its Lumix DMC-LX3 digital compact camera, which is basically the corrected version of the recently released firmware update version 2.0. The update “supports several new functions and improves various aspects of performance to elevate shooting convenience and fun.” You’ll be able to download it starting today via Panasonic’s official website.

Sony has unveiled the pricing and availability of their new XDCAM EX Shoulder-mount camcorder, the PMW-350K. Measuring 124mm x 269mm x 332mm and weighing 3.2-kg, the Sony XDCAM EX PMW-350K provides three 2/3 inch-type Exmor Full HD CMOS sensors, an HDMI out, and a 3.5-inch LCD screen. The camcorder is able to record video in MPEG-2 Long GOP HQ, MPEG-2 MP@HL SP, MPEG-2 MP@H14 SD mode on a 32GB SxS memory card. The Sony PMW-350K will be available on January 10th, 2009.

Canon is reportedly developing a new firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera. The update is said to “enable full frame high definition 1080p video recording at 24 and 25 frames per second.” This new firmware update is expected to be made available during the first half of 2010.

Canon has announced the availability of its EOS 1D Mark IV high-speed digital SLR camera, which is developed incorporating feedback from professional photographers. The camera provides a 16-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors, and 14-bit A/D data conversion, all at 10 frames-per-second (fps), with the widest ISO range Canon has produced to date. Bioware’s Dragon Age: Origins is a computer role-playing game currently in development by BioWare’s Edmonton studio. The game will be released for PC and Xbox 360 in North America on November 3, 2009, and in Europe on November 6, 2009. The PlayStation 3 version of the game will be released on November 17, 2009. Samsung have officially announced that their second Android smartphone namely the i5700 Galaxy Lite will soon be available in Russia under the name of Samsung Galaxy Spica. It was indeed a non-exclusive deal: Google is to begin indexing real-time Twitter messages in search results in a deal announced just hours after Microsoft debuted integration of 'tweets' into its own Bing search engine.

A post on the official Google blog by vice-president of search, Marissa Mayer, explained: "We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation — say, snow conditions at your favourite ski resort — you'll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information."

Google has "reached an agreement", but the search results have not gone live like Microsoft's have on Bing. Reports started to surface earlier this month that Twitter was in separate talks with both Google and Microsoft, which also has a deal with Facebook that will be launching down the road.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it is fixing a bug in Bing that previously allowed spammers to bypass spam filters and distribute malicious links.

Researchers at Webroot Software discovered a spam campaign earlier this week that used the search engine's own redirection mechanism and a link-shrinking technique to send people to spam web pages, according to a post on the Webroot threat blog.

The problem stems from how Bing formats links in RSS feeds. The redirect from Bing to the spam site is not obfuscated, which has allowed scammers to append anything to the end of the Bing redirect URL and thus trick spam filters, said Andrew Brandt, a threat researcher at Webroot.

Microsoft is indeed including real-time search results from Facebook and Twitter in its Bing search engine thanks to two partnerships, search head Qi Lu and senior vice-president Yusuf Mehdi announced at the Web 2.0 Summit on Wednesday.

The Twitter partnership, which will bring all real-time public tweets to Bing, went live in beta on Wednesday at Bing.com/twitter. The Facebook deal, which will access all information shared publicly on the social network, will arrive "at a later date", Mehdi said. It is all part of Bing's strategy to harness "the emerging hot area of real-time information", he added.

No financial terms were disclosed for either deal; in a talk later in the day at the Web 2.0 Summit, Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said "no money changed hands" in its deal with Microsoft.
